Meredith August, DMD, MD

Dr. August is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She attended Union College in Schenectady, NY where she majored in modern languages and English literature. She then attended the Harvard School of Dental Medicine from which she graduated in 1982. She completed her residency training at the Massachusetts General Hospital during which she also received her medical degree from Harvard University. She remained on the full-time academic staff at Mass General for more than 30 years during which she practiced full scope oral surgery with an interest in pathology, dental implants in medically compromised hosts and the teaching of both dental students and oral surgery residents. She attained the rank of Associate Professor at Harvard and her extensive publications are in the areas of her clinical interest. She is frequent lecturer at national meetings and has served on the Examination Committee of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She was also the Director of the Dental Implant Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital as well as the clinical clerkship in Oral Surgery offered by the department.

Dr. August has been married to Dr. Nalton Ferraro (also an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and former Associate in our practice) for 35 years and together they have collaborated on many innovative oral surgery techniques and teaching initiatives that continue to this day. Their daughter Sarah is a clinical Social Worker in NYC and runs a shelter for homeless and disabled veterans.

When not working or teaching, Dr. August enjoys reading, knitting, running and cycling. She is so happy to be joining the group at OMS Inc. and continuing her work with Dr. Catrambone with whom she has taught MGH residents and Harvard dental students for many years.
